Handy information about power of attorney process at the Turkish Consulate for non-Turkish speakers
Getting a Power of Attorney in person at the Turkish Consulate
1. Which documents do you need to bring?
- 2 passport size photos
- Your non-expired passport
- Information of the person whom you will appoint. The information includes his full name, address, father’s name, birth date, Turkish ID number and his/her bar number if he is an attorney.
- $80 Cash for the processing fee. Exact amount will be calculated at the Consulate. The fee is usually between $40-$80.
- A Turkish citizen interpreter – WE ARE THE CONSULATE REGISTERED INTERPRETERS. CONTACT US FOR COMPLIMENTARY DOCUMENT REVIEW SERVICE.
- Content of your power of attorney. For instance if it is for a sale of a property, you should bring a copy of the title deed. If it is a divorce related power of attorney, you should bring a copy of your former husband or wife’s Turkish ID. CONTACT US FOR COMPLIMENTARY DOCUMENT REVIEW SERVICE.
2. Do I have to make an appointment?
No. There is no appointment system at the Turkish Consulate. It is first come, first serve during the business days from 9 am to 12 pm. HOWEVER, you have to make an appointment for the interpreter if you need one.

4. Where can I parking by the Consulate, Los Angeles?
There are 4 options. First, you can park inside the building. The Consulate doesn’t validate the parking ticket. Second, there is street parking after 9 am. Don’t forget to feed the meter every hour. Third, there is an outdoor parking on the west side of the Consulate building. Early bird fee is $7 if you arrive before 10 am. It is my choice parking. Fourth, one block north of Wilshire, there is 2 hour street parking. Mind the street cleaning hours/days.
5. Is there an ATM close by?
Yes, on the first floor of the building, there is an ATM inside the convenience market. Also, there is a Chase back on the north east corner of Wilshire and Crescent Heights.
6. Where can I get my passport pictures taken?
On the first floor of the building, there is Efes tourism. They would happily assist you with your pictures. Your other option would be the passport picture place across Wilshire Blvd.

7. Do I have to appear at the consulate in person?
For power of attorney’s for a sale of a property, you have to appear at the Consulate in person. For the other types of power of attorney’s, you don’t have to.
8. If I choose not to appear in person, how can I legalize the power of attorney document?
Here are the 4 steps of getting a power of attorney without appearing in person at the Consulate
- Pick out the power of attorney form from the konsolosluk.gov.tr website. You will need a Turkish speaker assistance since all those forms are in Turkish.
- Fill out the information and customize the standard text according to your needs. You will need a Turkish speaker assistance since all those forms are in Turkish.
- Sign it in front of a Notary Public and get the Notary Public approval. It is usually $10.
- Attach your picture on the upper right corner of the Power of Attorney. Make sure that notary public endorses the photo. Most notary publics would put their raised seal on the photo.
- Take the notarized power of attorney to county clerk and get the signature authenticated. It is usually around $10.
- Take the notarized and authenticated power of attorney to the Turkish Consulate in your jurisdiction area and get it approved. It is usually around $20. Now you are good to go.

9. How do I download the power of attorney text?
The Consulate website offers its complete information in Turkish. Follow those 2 steps to get to the download section:
First page
Sign into www.konsolosluk.gov.tr
Choose “Türkçe” which means Turkish.

‘Şehir seçiniz:’ any city you want
Second page
On the left menu, move your cursor onto ‘İşlemler’ and then click on ‘Noterlik’, the third one from the bottom. This link offers various power of attorney texts that you can share with your attorney in Turkey and decide which one serves you the best.
10. Which notarial act should I ask for my power of attorney?
Jurat or acknowledgment. Specifically ask the notary public to apply the approvals on the same page.
